During normal operations, there are accessible hot surfaces above the ignition temperature of probable fuel sources, including:
- Electrical failures such as jammed starter motors
- Overheated cables or faults such as a cable short
- Electrical fault around battery with damage to insulation, shorting of leads, and/or contact between live components and machine body
- Alternator faults
- Inappropriate cable routing proximate to flammable materials/fuels
- Engine faults e.g. running backwards
This Credible Failure mode is addressed by:
- BI-01.52 Skilled and experienced personnel are accountable for selection of mobile equipment
