This standard applies to all tyres, wheels and rims on mobile, transportable and fixed plant at a mine and includes all associated tools and equipment as mentioned in this standard.
The purpose of this standard is to give an outline of what elements must be considered in a mine’s Safety and Health Management System (SHMS) and to assist in the development of a Standard Operating Procedure, and other procedures, for the management of tyres, wheels and rims at a coal mine.
It provides a managed approach to achieve an acceptable level of risk to persons using the SOP required by Section 72 (a) of the Coal Mining Safety and Health Regulation 2001.
While dominantly focussed on achieving compliance the document provides useful points of guidance on setting up and maintaining a leading practice operation using heavy earthmoving tyres and wheel assemblies.
