Operating mobile equipment can impact fire controls by:
- Driving through/with brakes on causes brake heating/fire
- Operating at excessive loads for extended periods causes equipment failure (from hot components including tyres/tires)
- Repeatedly acknowledging/ignoring over-temperature alarms
- Colliding with fuel containing structures/plant
- Operating in/near natural fuel sources (e.g. dry vegetation, flammable atmosphere, etc.)
- Impact with surrounding vehicles/structures leading to premature failure of hoses or containment reservoirs
- Loss of fire suppression/extinguishers due to impact with surrounds or operating on excessively rough roadways for an extended period
Credible Failure mode is addressed by:
- BI-01.03 Clear operator performance management expectations supported by an active and consistent performance management process
- BI-01.04 Trained, Competent and Authorised Mobile Equipment Operators
