Driving while fatigued – Mines Safety Alert no. 246 on 04 August 2010, Queensland, Australia

This alert describes an incident when a mines inspector was travelling south on the Bruce Highway when a vehicle travelling north veered onto the wrong side of the road and into his path. Evasive action was required to avoid a head on collision.

The incident was caused by a fatigued driver and the alert makes fatigue management recommendations. It also notes that the fatigued driver had a five hour drive to a mine site where he was rostered to work a 12 hour shift.
